AI visibility monitoring or fixing: which does my business need? (Malaysia)

EasyFound · · 7 min read

TL;DR

Most Malaysian small businesses need both, in order: one first check, then fixing, then light monitoring. That order is our reading, not a test result. Monitoring shows what AI tools such as ChatGPT say about you. Fixing changes what they can read about you. In our Malaysian tests, two ChatGPT answers to the same question shared only 15% of the businesses named, so check more than once.

Most Malaysian small businesses need both, in this order: one first check, then fixing, then light monitoring to see whether the fixes held. AI visibility monitoring tells you what AI tools such as ChatGPT say about your business, and how often. AI visibility fixing changes what those tools can read about you.

EasyFound is a founder-led AI SEO service based in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. That order is our reading of our tests of Malaysian buying questions, with ChatGPT's location set to Malaysia, not a test result.

So "AI visibility monitoring vs AI visibility fixing" is less a choice than a sequence. Picture a dental clinic owner in Klang with two offers on her desk: a tracking tool with daily charts, and a service that rewrites her pages. Monitoring alone changes no page, and fixing without a re-check is guessing.

What is the difference between AI visibility monitoring and AI visibility fixing?

AI visibility monitoring measures what AI tools say; AI visibility fixing changes the pages and records they read.

AI visibility monitoring and AI visibility fixing compared for a small business (EasyFound's description, by type of tool or service)
Monitoring Fixing
What it does Asks AI tools your customers' questions repeatedly and records the answers Changes your website, Google Business Profile and listings
Who usually does it Tracking software, an online checker, or you by hand You, a web person, an agency or a done-for-you service
What it can't do Change what AI tools read Tell you whether the change worked

Some tracking tools suggest fixes, but someone still has to make them (software or agency). Neither side has inside access. Google's guide says: "No third-party tool has access to our internal ranking or AI systems."1

Why does AI visibility monitoring have to be repeated?

AI visibility monitoring has to be repeated because one AI answer is a single draw, not a result. In our Malaysian tests:

Repeated checks do carry signal. SparkToro's Rand Fishkin, after testing how much AI answers vary, wrote that for measuring visibility "there seems to be some statistical validity to the practice"2.

What is AI visibility fixing aimed at?

AI visibility fixing is aimed at the pages AI tools read about you, starting with your own website. Our ChatGPT tests point to where the work usually is:

  1. Your own website. Businesses' own websites were the largest group among the 482 pages ChatGPT cited (full breakdown).
  2. Your official records. Registers and regulators were about a quarter of those cited pages, mostly for company secretary and solar questions.
  3. The facts ChatGPT repeats. It mostly repeated what a business does and where it is (what it repeats).
  4. Wrong details. In a small test of 8 answers, the two that gave a wrong hour or phone number cited someone else's page, not the business's own website. So the fix starts at the source (fixing wrong information).
  5. Access, but rarely robots.txt. None of the 59 robots.txt files we read blocked any of ChatGPT's crawlers (other causes).

A fix also takes time to show: on our own small website, ChatGPT's search crawler took a median of about three days to fetch a new post it found. It came back for few changed pages in the days we watched. So our advice is to re-check about a week after a fix, then monthly: a rule of thumb from one website's logs, not a promise that the change will show by then.

Does a Malaysian small business need AI visibility monitoring or fixing first?

Whether a Malaysian small business needs monitoring or fixing first depends on what you already know and what's already wrong. This table is our reading of those tests, not a test result.

AI visibility monitoring, fixing or both, by situation (EasyFound's reading for Malaysian small businesses)
Your situation What you need Why
You've never checked what AI tools say A first check, by hand or free You can't choose a fix without knowing the gap
AI tools give wrong facts about you Fixing, then a re-check Tracking a wrong answer doesn't correct it
Checked several times, and you're not named Fixing, then monthly monitoring The re-check shows whether the fix was read
Named often, with the right facts Light monitoring only Watch for changes; leave the pages alone
You already pay for tracking and nobody acts on it Fixing A report changes nothing by itself
Customers walk in and never search online Neither yet AI visibility work can wait

"Light" monitoring means the same few customer questions, asked several times, about once a month.

What can't our data tell me about AI visibility monitoring or fixing?

  • We have an interest. EasyFound does both the checking and the fixing by hand for clients, so weigh our order like any seller's.
  • We haven't measured the payoff of fixing. Our tests show what ChatGPT read and cited. They don't show how much a fix raises how often a business is named, or whether it brings sales.
  • It's mostly ChatGPT, through OpenAI's API. The ChatGPT app and other AI tools may behave differently, and the tests are small.

How do I decide between AI visibility monitoring and fixing for my business?

Deciding between AI visibility monitoring and fixing starts with one look at what AI tools say about your business.

  1. Request EasyFound's free check. See what ChatGPT says about your business, then go through it with us on a free call.
  2. Ask your customers' questions yourself, several times, in the languages they use (how to check by hand).
  3. Fix what you found, starting with your own website's facts.
  4. Re-check about a week later, then monthly, with the same questions asked the same way. That timing is our advice; a change may take longer to show.

EasyFound checks six AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode) in English, Malay and Chinese, makes the fixes by hand once you approve them, then asks the same questions again. Our self-serve tracking tool is an early-access waitlist, not a live product.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI visibility monitoring worth paying for if I run a small business in Malaysia?

Only if someone will act on what it shows. AI visibility monitoring reports what AI tools such as ChatGPT say about your business and how often. It doesn't change your website or listings. In EasyFound's reading of its Malaysian tests, a small business gets more from one careful first check, then fixes, then a light re-check each month than from daily tracking nobody reads.

Can an AI visibility tool fix what ChatGPT says about my business?

Mostly no. A monitoring tool asks AI tools your customers' questions and reports the answers. Some also suggest changes, but the changes to your website, Google Business Profile and directory listings are usually still made by you, a staff member or a service you pay. Ask any tool or provider one question before you buy: who makes the changes?

How often should I check what ChatGPT says after I fix my website?

Our advice is to wait about a week after a change, then check monthly with the same questions asked the same way. That's a rule of thumb from one website's logs, not a promise that a change shows within a week. On EasyFound's own small website, ChatGPT's search crawler took a median of about three days to fetch a new post it found, and it came back for few changed pages in the days we watched. Ask each question several times, because one answer can mislead.

Do I need to monitor Gemini as well as ChatGPT?

Yes, if your customers use both. In EasyFound's test of Malaysian buying questions through each company's API, a Gemini answer and a ChatGPT answer to the same question shared only 6% of the businesses named. A check in one AI tool doesn't tell you what another says, so check each tool your customers use, in the language they ask in.
