Which POS system does ChatGPT recommend for a Malaysian café?
EasyFound · · 7 min read
ChatGPT kept recommending the same three Southeast Asian POS brands to Malaysian café owners, in English, Malay and Chinese. Its facts came mostly from the POS sellers' own pricing and feature pages. Other systems were named mostly when the owner asked about something specific, like working offline or GrabFood orders. Café owners should check the full cost; POS sellers need a page for each question owners ask.
ChatGPT recommended the same three Southeast Asian POS brands to Malaysian café owners, again and again. In our test, at least one of them was in every answer, whether the owner asked in English, Malay or Chinese. Other POS systems got in mostly when the owner asked for something specific: a tight budget, working offline, GrabFood and foodpanda orders, LHDN e-invoice or a support team in Johor Bahru.
A café owner in PJ asks "I'm opening a small café, which POS system with QR ordering should I use?" In 19 of our 20 answers, ChatGPT's first web search already contained a POS brand the owner never typed.
Which POS systems did ChatGPT recommend for Malaysian cafés?
ChatGPT recommended mostly three Southeast Asian POS brands, which we call POS A, B and C. All three were named together in 12 of the 20 answers (CSV). Our title, asked word for word and in one rewording, got the same three in all four answers.
The other kinds of system came up for particular questions:
| Kind of POS system | Answers naming one (of 20) | Which questions |
|---|---|---|
| The three Southeast Asian POS brands | 20 | Every question, in all three languages |
| Smaller POS and ordering systems | 5 | Offline mode, delivery orders, support in JB |
| A global POS app | 4 | Tight budget, offline mode, one Malay answer |
| LHDN's own MyInvois e-POS | 2 | E-invoice |
| F&B POS brands from elsewhere in Asia | 2 | GrabFood and foodpanda orders |
| POS dealers based in JB | 2 | Support in JB |
The Malay question about a small café in Shah Alam and the Chinese question about QR ordering in KL drew the same three brands. In this test, the language didn't change the shortlist.
Why does ChatGPT name the same POS brands for every café?
ChatGPT seems to pick its café POS shortlist before it searches. Its first search usually read like "Malaysia cafe POS QR ordering [brand] pricing", with a brand name the owner never typed. Our reading is that it starts from the brands it already knows, then searches to fill in their prices and features.
In this test, that left little room for a smaller POS on a general question. The smaller systems got in on narrow questions; our guess is that the brands ChatGPT searched first didn't always have a page that matched.
Where did ChatGPT get its facts about café POS systems?
ChatGPT took its facts about café POS systems almost entirely from the POS sellers' own websites. Of the 72 links in the 20 answers, 66 went to a POS seller's own page.
| Page linked | Links |
|---|---|
| A POS seller's pricing page | 28 |
| A POS seller's product or feature page | 25 |
| A POS seller's own buying guide or comparison | 6 |
| A POS seller's help article or contact page | 7 |
| LHDN pages on e-invoice and its own e-POS | 4 |
| A payments company's guide, a delivery platform's page | 2 |
The page that answered the question won the link. The offline question got an old blog post by a POS seller asking whether its system works without internet. The JB question got a local POS company's own "best POS system in Johor Bahru" page.
Self-published lists showed up too. In our 2 October test, a Penang café question linked one POS company's comparison of itself against two rivals, and ChatGPT listed that company first, as possibly the cheapest. Whether that counts as buying a place is covered in can you pay to become ChatGPT's top recommendation?.
Software review sites never appeared in the search results we could see. Reddit appeared in every answer's results but was never linked, as in our other industries.
What did ChatGPT tell café owners about each POS system?
ChatGPT mostly told café owners what each POS system costs and which café features it has. Prices came up in 13 of the 18 answers to questions that never mentioned budget.
| What the answer said | Answers |
|---|---|
| A named system's price or free plan | 15 |
| QR ordering | 12 |
| LHDN e-invoice or MyInvois | 7 |
| Offline mode | 5 |
| Customer support or support hours | 5 |
| GrabFood or foodpanda integration | 4 |
Those prices were list prices from pricing pages. Many answers warned that hardware and add-ons may cost extra. One Chinese answer reminded the owner that paying by QR isn't the same as ordering by QR.
E-invoice questions drew a government answer. Both answers put LHDN's own MyInvois e-POS on the shortlist and linked LHDN's pages. LHDN describes it as "a digital Point-of-Sale (POS) platform specifically provided by HASiL", meant to help small businesses "meet the requirements for e-Invoice implementation" (LHDN).
What can't this test tell a café owner about choosing a POS?
- Which POS is good. ChatGPT repeated what sellers' pages say. Neither it nor we tested the systems.
- The app. We used OpenAI's API with search required. The ChatGPT app, with your chat history, can differ.
- Other weeks. This is one test, and answers change from run to run.
What should café owners and POS companies do about ChatGPT's picks?
Café owners can use the shortlist as a start, and POS sellers can earn a place on it one question at a time.
- Find out what ChatGPT says about you today. Our free check asks the questions your buyers type, like "Which café POS in Malaysia connects with GrabFood and Foodpanda?", and we go through the answers with you on a free call.
- Café owners: get the full cost in writing. Ask whether QR ordering, e-invoicing and delivery orders are in the plan you're quoted, and test the till with the wifi switched off.
- POS sellers: write one plain page per owner question. Offline mode, LHDN e-invoice, delivery-platform orders, multi-outlet stock and inventory, and where your support team works each earned links in this test.
- POS sellers: keep your pricing page current and complete. It was the page ChatGPT linked most, and it repeated what each plan includes.
POS companies can also hand this to EasyFound's AI SEO service. We ask six AI tools the questions café owners type, in English, Malay and Chinese: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Then we fix the pages they read, starting with the free check below.

Frequently asked questions
What's the best POS system for a small café in Malaysia?
ChatGPT usually answers with a shortlist rather than one winner. In EasyFound's test on 9 October 2026 (OpenAI's API, web search, location Malaysia), ten café-owner questions asked twice each drew the same three Southeast Asian POS brands again and again. One test is not a ranking, so use the shortlist as a starting point: ask each seller whether QR ordering, e-invoicing and delivery orders are in the plan you're quoted, what the hardware costs, and how the system behaves when the internet drops.
Is there a POS system in Malaysia that still works offline?
Yes, several POS sellers say their systems keep recording sales offline and sync when the connection returns. In EasyFound's October 2026 test, both ChatGPT answers to a café owner's offline question named systems whose own pages describe an offline mode. Both also warned that card and QR payments may still need the internet. Ask for a demo with the wifi switched off.
Which café POS is ready for LHDN e-invoice?
Ask each POS seller to show how its system sends e-invoices to LHDN's MyInvois, including consolidated e-invoices and a customer's request for their own. In EasyFound's October 2026 test, both ChatGPT answers to this question also shortlisted LHDN's own MyInvois e-POS, which LHDN describes as "a digital Point-of-Sale (POS) platform specifically provided by HASiL" to help small businesses meet e-invoice requirements. Check LHDN's implementation timeline to see when e-invoicing applies to your café.
Does ChatGPT use software review sites to pick a POS system?
Not in EasyFound's October 2026 test. Across 20 answers to Malaysian café owners' POS questions, no software review site appeared in the search results we could see. Reddit appeared in the search results of every answer, but ChatGPT never linked it. It linked the POS sellers' own pages instead. Other questions, days or engines may differ.
How do I get my POS system recommended by ChatGPT?
Write a plain page for each question café owners ask: QR ordering, LHDN e-invoice, offline mode, GrabFood and foodpanda orders, multi-outlet stock, and where your support team works. In EasyFound's October 2026 test, ChatGPT linked pages like these when owners asked about those features, and it linked POS sellers' own pricing pages more than any other kind of page. Keep those pages current and say what each plan includes.

Our data: EasyFound, ChatGPT's POS recommendations for Malaysian cafés, 9 October 2026. 20 answers to 10 questions from café owners, in English, Malay and Chinese, each asked twice through OpenAI's Responses API, model chat-latest, not the ChatGPT app. Web search was required on every call, the approximate location was Malaysia, there was no chat history, and the system prompt asked ChatGPT to answer "the way ChatGPT would answer a consumer in Malaysia" and to return the POS systems named as a separate list. The questions were written the way owners type, e.g. "The wifi at my café keeps dropping. Is there a POS system in Malaysia that still works offline?" We merged spelling variants of one system, classified every linked page by type, and coded prices and offline mode by hand; the other facts were found by keyword and checked by reading. "A POS brand in the first search" means ChatGPT's first web search query contained a POS brand name the question didn't. "Search results" means the pages ChatGPT's web search returned to it. The 2 October rows come from EasyFound's industry test (3 answers; web search available but not required, no system prompt), and the title rows asked this article's title and one variant twice each the same way on 9 October. Per-answer data (CSV). We don't name POS companies, because one week's answers are not a league table.
