What schema should a Malaysian business website have?
EasyFound · · 7 min read
A Malaysian business website should start with one LocalBusiness block on the homepage, using the most specific type, a +60 phone number and a Malaysian address. Add a Service block with MYR prices where a page lists a price, and FAQPage only where the questions are on the page. Every fact you mark up should also be on the page. Schema helps search engines read your facts, but it hasn't been shown to raise ChatGPT citations.
A Malaysian business website should start with one LocalBusiness block on the homepage, using the most specific type. Add a Service block with MYR prices where a page lists a price, and FAQPage only where the questions are on the page. Every fact you mark up should also be on the page. We asked ChatGPT for a Malaysian template and its price range came back as "$$", not ringgit.
In our check, half the Malaysian business pages ChatGPT cited had no business schema at all. Schema is housekeeping, not a ticket in. The templates reuse the fictional aircon company from our page-writing guide.
What schema should a Malaysian business homepage have?
A Malaysian business homepage should carry one LocalBusiness block of the most specific type. Google recommends "the most specific subtype(s) of LocalBusiness"1, such as HVACBusiness for aircon. Replace every value:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "HVACBusiness",
"@id": "https://www.example.com/#business",
"name": "Kedai Aircon Contoh",
"alternateName": ["Contoh Aircon", "例子冷气"],
"legalName": "Kedai Aircon Contoh Sdn. Bhd.",
"url": "https://www.example.com/",
"logo": "https://www.example.com/logo.png",
"telephone": "+60 3-0000 0000",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "No. 1, Jalan Contoh, SS 15",
"addressLocality": "Subang Jaya",
"addressRegion": "Selangor",
"postalCode": "47500",
"addressCountry": "MY"
},
"geo": { "@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": 3.00000, "longitude": 101.50000 },
"openingHoursSpecification": {
"@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
"dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday", "Saturday"],
"opens": "09:00",
"closes": "18:00"
},
"priceRange": "RM60-RM300",
"areaServed": [
{ "@type": "City", "name": "Subang Jaya" },
{ "@type": "City", "name": "Puchong" },
{ "@type": "City", "name": "Shah Alam" }
],
"hasMap": "https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Kedai+Aircon+Contoh&query_place_id=YOUR_PLACE_ID",
"sameAs": ["https://www.facebook.com/your-page-name", "https://www.instagram.com/your-account"]
}
| Property | What to put, Malaysian version | In Google's guides? |
|---|---|---|
name, address |
Trading name; address with taman, postcode, state, "MY" | Required |
alternateName, legalName |
Malay or Chinese names customers use; your SSM name | Recommended (Organization) |
telephone |
+60 with the area code | Recommended |
geo |
At least five decimal places | Recommended |
openingHoursSpecification |
24-hour times, one block per set of days | Recommended |
priceRange |
A ringgit range under 100 characters | Recommended |
logo, url, sameAs |
Logo at least 112×112px; your social profiles | Recommended (Organization) |
areaServed, hasMap |
Towns you cover; a Google Maps link to your listing | Not listed: valid Schema.org, for other machines |
Three details to get right:
- Your own rating. Google recommends
aggregateRatingonly "for sites that capture reviews about other local businesses"2, so don't paste your Google stars in. - Your Business Profile link. Google's
sameAsexamples are social media and review-site profiles1; it doesn't name Maps links or rule them out. We put the public Maps link inhasMap, "a URL to a map of the place"3. - Festive closures. For Hari Raya or Chinese New Year, Google marks "a seasonal business closure" with
validFromandvalidThrough, plus opens and closes both set to "00:00"2.
What schema should a Malaysian service page have?
A Malaysian service page should carry a Service block with an Offer priced in MYR, pointing to the homepage block by its @id. The price must match the page:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Service",
"name": "Aircon servicing",
"provider": { "@id": "https://www.example.com/#business" },
"areaServed": { "@type": "City", "name": "Subang Jaya" },
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"price": "100.00",
"priceCurrency": "MYR",
"description": "Basic service, per unit. Gas top-up extra."
}
}
Google's rich result list has no Service entry4, so this block is for other software reading prices.
Should a Malaysian business website still use FAQPage schema?
FAQPage schema is optional for a Malaysian business website. Google's FAQ rich result "is no longer shown in Google Search results", and Google removed its documentation in June 20265. It's still valid Schema.org, so mark up only the questions your page answers:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "FAQPage",
"mainEntity": [
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "How much does aircon servicing cost in Subang Jaya?",
"acceptedAnswer": { "@type": "Answer", "text": "RM100 per unit for a basic service. Gas top-up is extra, from RM60." }
},
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "Do you service aircon in Shah Alam?",
"acceptedAnswer": { "@type": "Answer", "text": "Yes. We cover Subang Jaya, Puchong and Shah Alam, Monday to Saturday." }
}
]
}
Does schema help ChatGPT recommend a Malaysian business?
Schema helps search engines read a Malaysian business's facts; whether ChatGPT reads it is unproven, and it hasn't been shown to raise citations10 (what the studies found). See also how ChatGPT knows who your business is.
Of 36 Malaysian business pages ChatGPT cited in our September test, 13 carried LocalBusiness markup. Half had no Organization or LocalBusiness markup, including all 12 Google Sites pages.
How do I add schema to my business website in WordPress or by hand?
Add schema to your website through a WordPress plugin or by pasting JSON-LD into the page. Google recommends JSON-LD "if your site's setup allows it"6.
- Rank Math: with its Local SEO module on, the business fields live under Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Local SEO7. Pick your Business Type there.
- Yoast: its feature table marks LocalBusiness as not included in free Yoast SEO, but included in Premium8.
- By hand: wrap each template in
<script type="application/ld+json">and</script>, and paste it into that page's HTML. - Check it in the Schema.org Validator and Rich Results Test.
Google's rule either way: "Don't mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page"9.
What can't this schema guide tell me about my Malaysian website?
- Rankings. Google doesn't guarantee valid markup appears in results.
- The ChatGPT app. Our check used OpenAI's API and only pages ChatGPT already cited.
- Your plugin's output. Check what it emits.
How do I check whether AI reads my Malaysian business website correctly?
Valid schema is the easy part. Knowing what AI repeats about you takes a check.
- Request EasyFound's free check. See what ChatGPT says about your business, then go through it with us on a free call.
- Fill in the homepage template and run the validator.
- Show every fact on the page too, from your SSM name to Puchong.

Frequently asked questions
Which schema type should my Malaysian business use, Organization or LocalBusiness?
If you have a shop, clinic or office customers can visit, use LocalBusiness, and pick its most specific type, such as HVACBusiness for an aircon company or Dentist for a dental clinic. Google's Organization guide says that for a local business it recommends 'the most specific subtype(s) of LocalBusiness'. LocalBusiness is a kind of Organization, so Organization properties such as logo, alternateName and sameAs still apply.
How do I write a Malaysian address and phone number in schema markup?
Use a PostalAddress with streetAddress, addressLocality (your town, such as Subang Jaya), addressRegion (your state, such as Selangor), postalCode and addressCountry set to 'MY', the two-letter country code Google asks for. Write the phone number with the country code and area code, for example +60 3-0000 0000 (or +60 12-… for a mobile), because Google's guide says to 'include the country code and area code in the phone number'.
Should I put my Google rating in my website's schema?
No. Google's local business guide says aggregateRating 'is only recommended for sites that capture reviews about other local businesses'. Copying your own Google Business Profile rating into your website's schema won't make you eligible for review stars. Show reviews on the page if you like, but leave the rating out of your own business markup.
Is FAQ schema still worth adding in 2026?
Not for Google's FAQ rich results: Google says the feature 'is no longer shown in Google Search results' and removed its documentation in June 2026. FAQPage is still valid Schema.org markup. Add it only where the questions and answers are visible on the page, and treat it as optional.
Does schema markup help ChatGPT recommend my business?
It hasn't been shown to raise ChatGPT citations. In EasyFound's September 2026 test through OpenAI's API (gpt-5.4-mini with web search, location Malaysia), half of the 36 Malaysian business pages ChatGPT cited that we could open had no Organization or LocalBusiness schema. Schema helps search engines read your facts; the same facts must also be in plain text.
Sources
Our data: EasyFound, Schema markup on Malaysian business pages ChatGPT cited: 36 of the 37 business-owned pages (24 own websites, 12 Google Sites pages) cited in 30 answers to ten Malaysian local-recommendation and price questions, asked three times each on 26 September 2026 through OpenAI's API with web search, location Malaysia, model gpt-5.4-mini, not the ChatGPT app. Pages were fetched on 30 September 2026 without running scripts (one no longer opened), so markup added by JavaScript isn't counted. These are the same 36 pages as in how to write a page ChatGPT will quote. Every JSON-LD block was parsed, and subtypes such as HVACBusiness count as LocalBusiness. Only cited pages were checked, so this can't show whether schema changes the odds of being cited. Download the page checks (CSV). Pages are numbered, not named. The templates were checked with the Schema.org Validator on 1 October 2026 (0 errors, 0 warnings); Kedai Aircon Contoh, its address, phone number and map coordinates are invented placeholders, and "contoh" is Malay for "example".
