How do agencies show a prospect what AI says about their business before a pitch? (Malaysia)

EasyFound · · 8 min read

TL;DR

To show a Malaysian prospect what ChatGPT says about their business, ask the questions their customers ask, in English and Malay, logged out and more than once. Bring the dated answers, who was named instead and the pages linked. Don't bring a summary you asked ChatGPT to write about them. When we asked ChatGPT this question through OpenAI's API, every answer suggested exactly that summary.

Agencies show a prospect what AI says about their business before a pitch by asking ChatGPT, and any other AI tool the prospect's customers use, those customers' questions, in English and Malay, logged out and more than once. Bring the dated answers, who it named instead and the pages it linked, not a summary you asked ChatGPT to write: a summary shows what it knows when asked by name, not whether it recommends them when a customer asks.

Picture an agency account manager in PJ the night before pitching a car workshop in Klang. The quick move is to type the workshop's name into ChatGPT and screenshot the reply.

ChatGPT advises much the same. We asked it this article's question in two phrasings through OpenAI's API on 21 October 2026, and all four answers told us to have ChatGPT summarise the prospect's business. Across six answers to three phrasings, none wrote out a question a customer would ask without the prospect's name; the example prompts it gave were about the prospect itself ("this company", "[brand]").

The questions below are ones a sceptical owner may ask in the pitch, in an order that works for the deck.

Isn't ChatGPT's summary of my business enough?

A ChatGPT summary of a prospect's business answers "what do you know about this company?", a question few customers ask before they have heard of it. The question that costs the prospect work is a customer asking for a recommendation and ChatGPT naming someone else. A summary can't show that. Whether you call it an AI visibility audit or an AI brand audit, the pitch needs the customer's view: the right-hand column below.

What ChatGPT suggested for a pre-pitch check, and what to show a Malaysian prospect instead (EasyFound test, 21 October 2026)
What ChatGPT suggested What to show the prospect instead
Ask ChatGPT to summarise the business The answer to a customer's question that doesn't name the business
Ask it to answer in English and Malay The question asked in Malay, the way their customers type it
Send the prospect a shared chat link Dated answers from a logged-out session
Use a Temporary Chat A logged-out check, because a Temporary Chat can still use your memories

A shared ChatGPT link can't show the prospect what their customers see: it is a snapshot of your own conversation, from your own account, and anyone who has a personal-account link can open it2. A Temporary Chat doesn't fix this: OpenAI says a Temporary Chat "can use existing memories, custom instructions, and plugins to personalize responses"1, unless you choose Unpersonalized before the first message.

What did you actually ask ChatGPT about my business?

Show the prospect the three kinds of question you asked ChatGPT about their business, because each one answers a different point in your pitch. For the Klang workshop, the set might look like this (examples, not test findings):

  1. A recommendation question without the name, to see if they're named at all: "Any good car workshop in Klang for a Honda City gearbox problem? Not too expensive."
  2. The same question in Malay, if their customers ask in Malay: "Bengkel kereta bagus kat Klang untuk baiki gearbox Honda City, ada recommend?"
  3. A question that names them, to see if the facts are right: "Is [workshop name] in Klang reliable? Do they open on Sunday?"

Five or six questions usually make the point at a first meeting. Ask each one logged out, three times if you can, as our hand-check guide sets out. A full monthly panel is a reporting job, not a pitch.

My customers ask in Malay. Did you ask ChatGPT in Malay?

Include questions asked in Malay whenever the prospect's customers ask in Malay, and ask them in Malay rather than translating an English answer. Asked in Malay, ChatGPT still searched mostly in English: in our October test, about 9 in 10 of its search queries for Malay questions were in English. Our reading, and a pitch point: the prospect's English pages likely shape what Malay-speaking customers are told too.

Why did ChatGPT name my competitor and not my business?

ChatGPT naming a competitor instead of the prospect's business is the answer to lead with, but you can show what happened, not why. Put the customer question where a competitor was named and the prospect wasn't on the first slide, with the page ChatGPT linked.

What can't a pre-pitch ChatGPT check tell me about why my competitor was named?

A pre-pitch ChatGPT check can't tell you three things:

  • Why a page was used. You see which pages were linked, not the reason, so label any "why" as your reading.
  • Exactly what one customer saw. A logged-out check leaves out memories and chat history, but ChatGPT may still use an approximate location from your IP address, so check from the prospect's area if you can.
  • How the ChatGPT app behaves. Our advice test is six API answers on one day, not the ChatGPT app; the agency reporting guide covers the wider limits.

Can you promise ChatGPT will recommend my business?

Don't promise the prospect that ChatGPT will recommend their business. OpenAI's own help page says of ChatGPT search: "Placement is not guaranteed."3 Promise the work and the re-check instead. After the pitch, a one-off ChatGPT snapshot becomes a schedule: the same questions for each client brand, asked again across the AI tools their customers use, each brand reported on its own. By hand, the work grows with every client you win.

Will ChatGPT say the same about my business tomorrow?

ChatGPT may well say something different about the prospect's business tomorrow, so present what it says as a dated snapshot of a few answers, never as a rank or a verdict. Repeat answers rarely match. Two ChatGPT answers to the same question shared only 15% of the businesses they named in our Malaysian test, so say "named in one of three asks", not "ChatGPT recommends this competitor" (why one screenshot misleads).

  • Label every answer with the date, the AI tool, the language and "logged out".
  • Show the page ChatGPT linked for any wrong fact, and let the prospect confirm it (fixing wrong details).

How do I get a prospect's ChatGPT answers ready before my next pitch?

Getting a prospect's ChatGPT answers ready takes an evening or two by hand. Or start with a request:

  1. Request EasyFound's free check for the prospect. Enter the prospect's website on our agencies page. We'll email you what ChatGPT says about their business, and you can talk it through with us on a call.
  2. Add two or three questions of your own, logged out, including one in Malay.
  3. Use a simple template: one slide per answer that matters, with the question, the date, who was named and the page linked.
  4. In the meeting, ask the prospect what's wrong. Their corrections can become the first month's work.

EasyFound is an AI search visibility (GEO) tool built for Malaysian businesses. For an agency, the snapshot you show a prospect can become that client's first baseline, asked again on a schedule once they sign. Start with the prospect you're pitching next, below.

Frequently asked questions

How do I show a prospect what ChatGPT says about their business before the pitch?

Agencies show a prospect what AI says about their business by asking ChatGPT and other AI tools the questions the prospect's customers ask, such as a request for a recommendation in their area, with and without the prospect's name. They ask while logged out, ask each question more than once, include Malay if the customers use it, and bring the dated answers, the businesses named instead and the pages the AI linked. A summary written by ChatGPT about the prospect shows what it knows when asked by name, not whether it recommends them.

Can I just send a prospect a shared ChatGPT link before the meeting?

You can, but a shared ChatGPT link shows your own conversation, from your own account, as it stood when you shared it. ChatGPT can use your custom instructions and, if memory is on, your saved memories; a Temporary Chat can too unless you choose Unpersonalized before the first message, according to OpenAI's help pages. Anyone who has a personal-account link can open it. For a pitch, dated answers from a logged-out session are a fairer picture of what the prospect's customers see.

Is it safe to put a prospect's business into ChatGPT before a pitch?

A pre-pitch check needs only public facts: the business name, the area, what it sells and the questions its customers ask. Leave out anything the prospect shared in confidence, customer lists and other personal data, which in Malaysia falls under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). If a tool or provider asks for more than public facts to run the check, ask what it stores and why.

Is it fair to show a prospect what ChatGPT gets wrong about their business?

Yes, if you show it as what their customers may read, not as a scandal. Put the date, the AI tool and the exact question next to each answer, show the page ChatGPT linked, and say that answers change from one ask to the next. Then ask the prospect which facts are wrong. Correcting them is usually part of the work you are pitching.

Our data: the opening finding comes from six ChatGPT answers collected on 21 October 2026: three phrasings of this article's question (two naming ChatGPT, one naming AI in general), asked twice each through OpenAI's Responses API (gpt-5.4-mini, web search available, location Malaysia), not the ChatGPT app. The four answers to the two ChatGPT phrasings all suggested having ChatGPT summarise the prospect's business, and all cited only OpenAI's help pages (CSV). Malay search queries: EasyFound language study, 1 and 9–10 October 2026, 225 of 249 ChatGPT search queries for Malay questions in English (CSV). Repeat answers: the 15% overlap is from the 24 September 2026 test, 45 questions with three runs each (CSV). EasyFound's own features are described from its tool page as of 21 October 2026.
