How can a tuition centre get recommended by ChatGPT in Malaysia?

EasyFound · · 9 min read

TL;DR

A tuition centre gets recommended by ChatGPT when a page it can read states the town, subjects and levels in plain words. In our Malaysian tests, ChatGPT named about three centres per answer, drawn from centres' own pages and tuition directories. The first name rarely repeated. Some picks were in the wrong town, so the address matters as much as the subjects.

A tuition centre gets recommended by ChatGPT in Malaysia when a page ChatGPT can read states its town, subjects and levels in plain words. In our tests, ChatGPT named about three centres per answer, and it found them on centres' own pages and tuition directories. Centres with only a free Google Sites page were named too. The town mattered: roughly one centre in fourteen that it offered was somewhere else.

A parent types something like "Looking for a good tuition centre for my son's SPM next year. Any recommendations?" We recounted 42 saved ChatGPT answers to questions like that, from KL and Cheras to Penang, Johor Bahru, Sabah and Sarawak.

How many tuition centres does ChatGPT recommend in one answer in Malaysia?

ChatGPT recommended a median of three tuition centres per answer in our Malaysian tests, counting the answers that named any. That compares with four across all kinds of business in our wider count. About two in three of those answers named between one and three centres, and the longest list had nine.

Not every parent got a name: ChatGPT named at least one centre in about four answers in five, and gave only advice in the rest.

The first name rarely held. When the same question was asked again, the centre named first stayed first in about one repeat in five. Two runs of a question together named a median of five different centres. What counts is how often you're drawn from that pool.

Which pages does ChatGPT read before it recommends a tuition centre?

ChatGPT read centres' own pages and tuition directories before it recommended a tuition centre in our tests. About half of the links it cited were a centre's own page, and half of those were free Google Sites pages, not full websites.

Pages ChatGPT cited in 42 answers about Malaysian tuition centres (EasyFound, per-answer data)
Kind of page Cited links What ChatGPT mostly repeated from it
Centre's own page on Google Sites 32 Area, subjects, class format
Centre's own website 30 Area, level, subjects
Tuition directory 30 Area and star rating
Tutor-matching or online tuition platform 18 Area and subjects
General business directory 7 Area
School, Google Maps, Facebook or media page 9 Little about any one centre

The kind of page changed what ChatGPT said about a centre. Beside a centre's own page, it repeated the subjects for about half the centres it named. Beside a directory, it more often repeated a star rating. The same pattern shows in our wider test of what ChatGPT repeats.

Does ChatGPT recommend tuition centres in the wrong town?

Sometimes: about one tuition centre in fourteen that ChatGPT recommended in our tests was in the wrong town. That is seven centres, and ten more had no location we could confirm from the answer or the page it cited.

  • One centre, four times. A centre in another state was offered to parents in Johor Bahru, KL and Cheras. We first saw it in our city test.
  • Two Kuching picks. Their own pages give addresses only in Selangor.
  • One Miri pick. It was a page titled for Miri on a platform that runs those classes online.

The last three come from our Sabah and Sarawak test.

That first centre's page is a free Google Sites page that lists its subjects and levels clearly. It turned up in about one answer in five, more than any other centre's page. ChatGPT pointed out the mismatch twice, writing in one answer that "this one is not in Cheras". The other two times, it was offered to a Johor Bahru parent with no warning.

Our reading is that ChatGPT's search matches a page on subject and exam first, and checks the town less reliably. OpenAI's own help page says: "Search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect."1 For a centre, this cuts both ways. A parent near you can be sent to a centre in another state, or your centre can be offered where you don't teach.

What does ChatGPT repeat about a tuition centre when it recommends one?

ChatGPT most often repeated where a tuition centre is, then what it teaches. We counted the text beside each recommended centre:

  • Area or address: about three centres in four.
  • Subjects: about four in ten.
  • Level, such as Form 4 and 5: about three in ten.
  • Class size or format: about one in four.
  • Star rating or reviews: about one in five.
  • A fee amount: 6 centres, each with the centre's or platform's own page cited beside it.

Most centres were named with no word about reviews, in line with our no-reviews test.

What can't our tests tell a Malaysian tuition centre about ChatGPT?

  • Other exams and languages. Every question was about SPM, not UPSR-age or IGCSE tuition. Most were in English, some in Chinese and none in Malay.
  • The ChatGPT app. We used OpenAI's API with web search; the app may answer differently.
  • Your town. Most of the 42 answers come from one day's test. We placed each centre from the answer or its cited page, and visited none.

Our reading: no tuition centre was locked in at the top in our tests, so a centre with a clear page has a chance each time a parent asks.

  2. Give each branch its own page with the actual address. Put the town and neighbourhood in the page title and first line, not only in a map or footer.
  3. List subjects and levels in plain words. Write "SPM Add Maths, Form 4 and 5" as text, not only inside a timetable image or poster.
  4. State class size and format. If your fees are on the page, keep them current, because ChatGPT may repeat them.
  5. Check your tuition directory listings. Directories supplied about a quarter of the links, so make sure the area and contact details there are right.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI visibility service for education and tuition centres in Malaysia?

We can't name a best one, and we're not neutral: EasyFound is an AI SEO service in the Klang Valley, so we're one of the options. Whichever service a tuition centre or other education business considers, ask four things. Which AI tools do they check? In which languages? Will they show you the raw answers parents would see? And how many times do they repeat each question, since in our tuition tests the first centre named changed in most repeats?

Why does ChatGPT recommend a tuition centre that isn't in my town?

In EasyFound's Malaysian tests, it happened when a page matched the subjects and exam a parent asked about. One centre in another state was offered to parents in Johor Bahru, KL and Cheras. Its page lists subjects and levels clearly, and ChatGPT pointed out the wrong town in only two of those four answers. Our reading is that the search matches on subject and exam first, and the town is checked less reliably.

Is a free Google Sites page enough for ChatGPT to recommend my tuition centre?

It was enough to be read in EasyFound's Malaysian tests. About half of the centres' own pages ChatGPT cited in our tuition answers were free Google Sites pages, not full websites. What they had in common was plain text: subjects, levels, class format and a town. We can't say a Google Sites page performs as well as a full website over time, because we didn't compare the two directly.

Does ChatGPT tell parents my tuition fees?

Only when it finds them on a page, in EasyFound's Malaysian tests. ChatGPT printed a centre's or a tuition platform's fee in 5 of 42 saved answers about tuition centres, and each time it cited that centre's or platform's own page for the figure. It often told parents to ask about fees too. If your fees are on your website, keep them current, because that is the figure a parent may be shown.

How many times should I ask ChatGPT to see if my tuition centre is recommended?

More than once. In EasyFound's Malaysian tests, when the same tuition question was asked again, the centre named first stayed first in about one repeat in five. Ask the question the way a parent would, several times, logged out, and count how often your centre appears. One answer with your name missing tells you little.

Our data: EasyFound, ChatGPT answers about tuition centres in Malaysia, October 2026. We made no new AI calls for the counts: every count comes from 42 saved answers in four earlier tests, all through OpenAI's Responses API with web search and approximate location Malaysia, not the ChatGPT app. The tests: 33 answers from our city test (1 October, gpt-5.4-mini, an SPM tuition question in English with and without the city named, and in Chinese, three runs each, with the location set to Kuala Lumpur, George Town, Johor Bahru or Malaysia only); 4 answers from our Sabah and Sarawak test (9 October, gpt-5.4-mini, one run each for Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Miri and Sandakan); 3 answers to the short keyword question "SPM tuition centre in Cheras" (26 September, gpt-5.4-mini); and 2 answers to a detailed Cheras question (8 October, chat-latest). Denominators: 34 of 42 answers named a centre (in two of the 34, both from the city test, the centre was only linked, not named in the text; we kept that test's coding); those 34 named 105 centres (64 different ones), and 23 of the 34 named one to three. First-name figures use all 26 pairs of runs of the same question in the same place (5 matched); the Sabah and Sarawak answers had one run, so they add no pairs. The wrong-town count covers the 99 centres named in the 36 answers where a town was set or named: 82 in that town or its metro area, 7 elsewhere, 10 unclear. Four of the 7 were one centre in another state, offered in three places; ChatGPT pointed out the mismatch in two of those four. The other three are the Kuching and Miri centres from the Sabah and Sarawak test. Klang Valley towns count as "in" for KL, and mainland Penang counts as "in" for Penang. The remaining 6 centres were named in answers with no town set. Cited pages: 126 links. Of these, 62 were a centre's own page (32 on Google Sites, 30 on its own website), 30 were tuition directory pages, 18 were tutor-matching or online tuition platform pages, 7 were general business directories, 5 were school or education-office pages, 2 were media pages, and Google Maps and Facebook had 1 each. An online tuition platform counts as a centre only where the answer offered its town page as a centre (three Cheras answers and Miri). "Own page on Google Sites" includes one school-run tuition class page and one chain's centre finder. Repeated facts were pattern-matched in the text beside each of the 105 centres, then each was read and corrected by hand: area or address 81, subjects 40, level 32, class size or format 24, rating or reviews 23, a fee amount 6. Lines that list several centres together make these approximate. "Level" means a school level such as Form 4, not an exam name alone. Centres per answer follow each test's own hand coding, which excludes directories, schools and colleges; our how-many dataset used an automatic list for the same city-test answers, so its total for the 33 city-test answers is 81 centres against 71 here; the median of three is the same in both. Download the per-answer data (CSV). We don't name the centres, because a few test runs aren't a ranking.
